Karyn's Homegoing

I read your note that Karyn died.
I knew I must answer and tried
To think of some comforting phrase,
Something that would ease
The coming days of pain,
The sadness that will drain
The marrow from your joy
And unexpectedly toy
With the corners of your eye.

But as hard as I might try
Anything I say
Means little when you weigh
God’s blessing that day she was healed,
When He gently peeled away her shell
Setting her free of this worldly spell,
Releasing her in the glory of spring
So her spirit could take wing.
